Substitute Teacher - La Joya, TX
About The Position
Kokua Education is accepting applications for substitute teachers in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers set their own schedules and may work up to five days per week in K–12 teaching assignments. They cover lesson plans and serve as positive role models who encourage students’ love of learning. Assignments may also include lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Teachers can choose schools across the Rio Grande Valley area and may gain a path to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools. Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
- At least 48 completed college credit hours.
- Confidence managing a classroom of students.
- Willingness to help where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and proctoring.
- Pass state and federal background checks; the costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
- Believe every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
Responsibilities
- Cover lesson plans and teach students in K–12 school assignments.
- Manage a classroom of students.
- Step in where needed, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
- Serve as a positive role model and help students recognize their potential.
