About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring elementary substitute teachers in the Austin, Texas area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers cover teaching assignments at K–12 schools, create positive learning experiences, and serve as role models for students. Teachers set their own schedules and may work up to five days per week, choosing from assignments that interest them. Assignments may also involve lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. The position offers a path to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools and support from Kokua staff daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pay is up to $200 per day and is paid weekly: $129 per day for candidates with some college (48 or more credits) or an associate degree, $150 per day for candidates with a bachelor's degree or higher, and $200 per day for long-term assignments at all qualification levels. Employment is paid via W-2. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 college credit hours completed.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to assist where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and proctoring.
Ability to pass state and federal background checks.

Responsibilities
