Part-time Substitute Teacher - Garland, TX
About The Position
Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in Garland and the surrounding Dallas area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers can choose their own schedule and work up to five days per week at K–12 schools across the Dallas area. They cover classroom assignments, support students, and may also help with lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Daily pay is up to $142, with weekly pay through W-2 employment. Pay depends on education level and assignment length: candidates with an associate’s degree or at least 48 college credit hours earn $120 per day for daily assignments and $135 per day for long-term assignments; candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher earn $126 per day for daily assignments and $142 per day for long-term assignments. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and says applicants may receive an offer within one week. The role may provide a path to permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
- At least 48 completed college credit hours.
- Confidence managing a classroom of students.
- Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
- Pass state and federal background checks; the costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
- Believe every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Responsibilities
- Provide classroom coverage and carry out lesson plans.
