About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers for K–12 schools across the Rio Grande Valley, including Harlingen, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers set their own schedule and may work up to five days per week in assignments they are most excited about. They support students as positive role models, help foster a love of learning, and may be considered for permanent roles at high-performing schools. Kokua offers daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and states that applicants may receive an offer within one week of applying. Pay is up to $145 per day, paid weekly. The stated rate is up to $117 per day for substitutes with a high school diploma or GED, 48 or more college credits, or an associate degree, and up to $145 per day for substitutes with a bachelor’s, master’s, or professional degree. Employees are paid via W-2. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 college credit hours completed.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to perform duties where needed, including lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.
Pass state and federal background checks.
