About The Position

This position is for a Student Support Coordinator for the Summer Discovery Academy. The role involves providing counseling and support to designated special needs students and their families, including individual and group counseling based on educational plans. The coordinator will also conduct home visits, participate in crisis intervention, consult with teachers, and establish relationships with human service agencies. Responsibilities also include coordinating with the Supervisor of Attendance and performing other duties as assigned by school leadership.

Requirements

• Licensed as a School Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education - Required.
• Ability to provide individual and small group counseling to the school-age population.
• Ability to work closely and harmoniously with parents, teachers, and administrators.
• Ability to conduct home visits and to write developmental histories.
• Knowledge of special education programs and laws.
• Knowledge of area mental health services.
• Strong organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling – Preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling and support to designated special needs students and their families.
• Provide individual and group counseling to designated special needs students as stated on their educational plans.
• Conduct home visits as requested.
• Participate in crisis intervention.
• Consult on a regular basis with classroom teachers regarding special needs students.
• Establish lines of communication and a good working relationship with area human service agencies.
• Coordinate with the Supervisor of Attendance in regard to CHINS petitions, 51As, etc.
• Responsible for other general duties as indicated by the Director of Special Education, the Building Principal, directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee and policies of the School Committee.
