About The Position

This position is responsible for tracking and assisting students by providing holistic services from pre-enrollment to completion for a defined set of students with a primary goal of assisting them with overcoming barriers to their success in college.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Two years’ experience delivering direct support/services to students in a higher education setting with a wide-ranging student body
  • Ability to manage a caseload system of advising.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage competing tasks and priorities while maintaining complete and accurate records.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office and database management skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationship at all levels across the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a varied community.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Arabic or Spanish
  • Prior work experience at a community college
  • Prior academic advising or student success coaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with students to achieve their identified goals and objects.
  • Review student progress and track student use of academic support services.
  • Assist students in identifying factors that contribute to lack of academic progress, help students examine alternatives, and apply appropriate retention strategies to support students’ efforts.
  • Strategize with faculty and other college staff as needed to improve support student success.
  • Maintain accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs.
  • Support annual recruitment of new students.
  • Create and conduct training sessions/workshops for students, faculty and staff.
  • Assist with developing and implementing a variety of institutional retention activities.
  • Participate in new student orientation and first year experience activities.
  • Utilize an SIS student records system and be able to function within a computerized office environment.
