About The Position

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa is seeking a Student Part-Time Professor to teach DVM 3150: Qualitative Research Methods and Techniques for Doing Fieldwork in International Development (3 units) for the Fall 2026 semester. This course focuses on methodological questions of field research in developing areas, covering qualitative data collection and analysis with an emphasis on participatory methods and the implications of research in power-laden contexts. The course component is a lecture and will be given in person. This position is limited to a Student Part-Time Professor.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. completed or in progress, or equivalent experience in the field of social sciences and International Development.
  • Submit a one-to-two page proposal on an important topic, outlining how they would teach this course (theme, content, literature, pedagogy).
  • Candidates must be a Student Part-Time Professor.

Nice To Haves

  • University teaching experience is an asset.
  • Experience in the In-Depth Experiential Learning Stream (IELS) would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Teach DVM 3150 Qualitative Research Methods and Techniques for Doing Fieldwork in International Development.
  • Develop and deliver course content, including theme, literature, and pedagogy.
  • Allocate a minimum of 60% of the student's final grade to experiential learning activities.
  • Ensure all mandatory legislated training is completed.
