Student Nurse Extern - ICU, ER and TELE
About The Position
The Student Extern is an adjunct member of the patient care team. Under the general supervision of a registered nurse, the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with established protocols, performing skills that have been successfully completed and passed in the clinical section of a local college nursing program. All newly hired externs initially function as nursing assistants, regardless of their clinical level in the nursing program. After clearance by the Supervisor, they may move to their appropriate skill level. The position is per diem with a variable shift. The role is with Dallas Regional Medical Center, a 202-bed acute care hospital and member of Prime Healthcare. The hospital provides a range of medical services and is accredited by The Joint Commission.
Requirements
- Must be in the fourth year of a nursing program.
- Must be in good academic standing.
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
Nice To Haves
- Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under the general supervision of an RN and in accordance with established protocols.
- Perform clinical skills that have been successfully completed and passed in the nursing program.
- Initially function as a nursing assistant; after clearance by the Supervisor, move to the appropriate skill level.
