About The Position

The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team and provides direct patient care under the general supervision of a registered nurse. The extern works at the level of clinical skills successfully completed and passed in a local college nursing program, with skills expanded in accordance with established protocols. All newly hired externs initially function as nursing assistants, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. Once cleared by the Supervisor, they may move to their appropriate skill level.

Requirements

• Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program.
• Must be in good academic standing.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the general supervision of an RN and in accordance with established protocols.
• Perform clinical skills that have been successfully completed and passed in the nursing program.
• Initially function as a nursing assistant until cleared by the Supervisor to work at the appropriate skill level.
