About The Position

The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team and performs at the level successfully completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college. Under the general supervision of an RN, the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with established protocols. The skills the extern is able to perform are expanded as appropriate. All newly hired externs first function as nursing assistants, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. After being cleared by the Supervisor, the student may move to their appropriate skill level.

Requirements

• Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program.
• Must be in good academic standing.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the general supervision of an RN and in accordance with established protocols.
• Initially function in the capacity of a nursing assistant, regardless of nursing program clinical level.
• Perform skills at the level successfully completed and passed in the clinical section of a local college; move to the appropriate skill level after clearance by the Supervisor.
