About The Position

The Student Extern is an adjunct member of the patient care team who provides direct patient care under the general supervision of an RN. The extern performs at the level successfully completed and passed in the clinical section of a local college nursing program, following established protocols. Skills may be expanded as appropriate. All newly hired externs initially function as nursing assistants, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. After clearance by the Supervisor, they may move to their appropriate skill level.

Requirements

• Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program.
• Must be in good academic standing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the general supervision of an RN and in accordance with established protocols.
• Initially function as a nursing assistant after hire.
• Perform skills at the level successfully completed and passed in the nursing program’s clinical section.
• After clearance by the Supervisor, move to the appropriate skill level.
