About The Position
The Student Extern is an adjunct member of the patient care team and performs duties at the level of clinical skills successfully completed in a local college nursing program. Under the general supervision of an RN, the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with established protocols, with skills expanded as appropriate. All newly hired externs initially function as nursing assistants, regardless of their clinical level in the nursing program. After being cleared by the Supervisor, the extern may move to the appropriate skill level.
Requirements
- Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program.
- Must be in good academic standing.
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
Nice To Haves
- Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in accordance with established protocols and under the general supervision of an RN.
- Perform duties at the level of clinical skills successfully completed in the nursing program.
- Initially function as a nursing assistant until cleared by the Supervisor to move to the appropriate skill level.
