About The Position

Avail Staffing is hiring experienced Structural Shipyard Welders and Industrial MIG Welders to support shipbuilding, ship repair, and industrial manufacturing projects. We are looking for dependable welders who take pride in quality workmanship, work safely, and can perform in demanding production environments. As a Structural Shipyard Welder / Industrial MIG Welder, you will perform welding and fabrication on structural components, assemblies, and equipment. Candidates may work in shipyard, marine, industrial, or manufacturing environments depending on project requirements.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Structural Welder, Shipyard Welder, MIG Welder, or Industrial Welder.
  • Experience welding carbon steel in a shipyard, industrial, manufacturing, or construction environment.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and welding symbols.
  • Ability to pass a company or customer weld test as required.
  • Familiarity with MIG/GMAW welding processes.
  • Ability to use grinders, hand tools, measuring tools, and welding equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and physically demanding shipyard environments.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous naval shipyard experience is preferred for structural shipyard positions.
  • Experience with NAVSEA welding requirements
  • Experience with U.S. Navy vessels
  • Experience with Structural steel fabrication
  • Experience with Ship repair and new construction
  • Experience with Bulkheads, decks, foundations, brackets, and structural components
  • Experience with FCAW and SMAW in addition to MIG/GMAW
  • Experience with Welding qualification tests
  • Experience with Blueprint and weld-symbol interpretation

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural welding on naval and commercial vessels, ship components, and industrial structures.
  • Perform MIG/GMAW welding on carbon steel and other materials as required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Perform fillet, groove, and structural welds according to project specifications.
  • Set up and operate welding machines, leads, grinders, cutting equipment, and related tools.
  • Fit, align, tack, and weld structural components to required dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform welding in various positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
  • Inspect welds for quality, penetration, appearance, and defects.
  • Grind, clean, and prepare surfaces before and after welding.
  • Follow NAVSEA, shipyard, customer, and project-specific welding procedures when applicable.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Follow all OSHA, shipyard, and company safety requirements.
  • Work effectively with shipfitters, welders, pipefitters, supervisors, and other trades.
  • Meet production schedules while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
