Sterilizer Technician I
About The Position
The Sterilizer Technician I inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs medical sterilization equipment used in healthcare and laboratory settings. The role helps ensure that steam and low-temperature sterilizers, instrument washers, ultrasonic washers, scope washer/disinfectors, and related equipment operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications, hospital policies, and regulatory standards. This is a full-time, fully benefited position at Buffalo General Hospital (Kaleida Health) in Buffalo, New York, with a Monday-through-Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The InterMed Group is a healthcare technology management company that has served hospitals and health systems across the country for over 20 years.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least four years of work experience, including two years of directly related mechanical or technical experience, such as mechanical, electrical, HVAC, automotive, or IT experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to meet required background and physical assessment elements to obtain and maintain vendor credentialing requirements.
- Customer and team engagement experience.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Windows, email, mobile apps, and data entry.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, including wiring diagrams.
- Strong attention to detail.

- Experience with Steris equipment.
Responsibilities
- Promote customer satisfaction through proactive communication and prompt resolution of customer issues.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance safely and efficiently, including disassembling, replacing, or repairing defective parts; rewiring or reassembling equipment; and troubleshooting, adjusting, calibrating, and certifying equipment for use.
- Perform customer training and in-servicing on assigned equipment.
- Use a smartphone, laptop, and related software to schedule and update work orders in real time, communicate with customers, and maintain tools and parts inventory.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, managers, and team members.
- Learn and follow operating room and hospital protocols, including sterile field guidelines, as well as InterMed and customer health and safety procedures.
- Seek continuing education opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
