About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is seeking dedicated and diverse educators to partner with them in achieving their goals of improving student achievement. The district serves approximately 19,000 students across 35 schools and programs. Successful educators are passionately committed to urban education, believe all students can learn at high levels, and are willing to put students' interests above all others. This position is for STEAM High School - Indoor Track Coaches (Varsity - Head/Assistant). The district offers 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12, with a coaching staff that is certified, dedicated, and enjoys working with student athletes. The modified program (grades 7-8) emphasizes skill development, participation, discipline, enjoyment, competition, and the value of hard work, rather than winning. The high school level (freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity) focuses on refining skills, competition, academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

Requirements

• New York State Coaching Certification
• Valid First Aid course
• Valid Adult CPR certification
• Workshop - Child Abuse Identification
• Workshop - School Violence Intervention and Prevention
• Workshop - Dignity For All Students Act (DASA)
• Fingerprint Clearance
• School District Recommendation
• Pass a fingerprint-based background check

Nice To Haves

• Valid Concussion Management Certificate
• Previous Coaching Experience

Responsibilities

• Coach student athletes in indoor track at the high school level.
• Develop skills, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship in student athletes.
• Prepare student athletes for higher levels of competition.
• Ensure student athletes are focused on academics and goal setting.
