STEAM Basketball Coaches
About The Position
The Syracuse City School District is seeking dedicated and diverse educators to partner in moving the district toward its goals. The STEAM High School is looking for Basketball Coaches (JV/Freshman - Head/Assistant). The district offers 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12. The coaching staff consists of certified, dedicated people who enjoy working with student athletes. In grades 7-8, a comprehensive modified program is offered, emphasizing skill development, participation, discipline, enjoyment, competition, and hard work. At the high school level, a higher refinement of skill is necessary, and competition is viewed at a higher level. The freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams strive for success, focusing on academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Requirements
- New York State Coaching Certification
- Valid First Aid course
- Valid Adult CPR certification
- Child Abuse Identification Workshop
- School Violence Intervention and Prevention Workshop
- Dignity For All Students Act (DASA) Workshop
- Fingerprint Clearance
- School District Recommendation
- Pass a fingerprint-based background check

- Valid Concussion Management Certificate
- Previous Coaching Experience
Responsibilities
- Coach student athletes in basketball.
- Develop skills, discipline, and teamwork in students.
- Prepare student athletes for higher levels of competition.
- Emphasize academics, goal setting, leadership, and sportsmanship at the high school level.
- Encourage maximum participation in the modified program (grades 7-8).
Benefits
- Salary per Unit 1 contract, prorated per length of season.
