About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is seeking dedicated and diverse educators to partner in its mission of ensuring all students graduate high school ready for college and career. Nottingham High School is looking for Basketball Coaches (Varsity/JV/Modified/Unified - Head/Assistant) to join their athletic staff. The district offers 120 athletic teams for students in grades 7-12, with a coaching staff that is certified, dedicated, and committed to student athletes. The modified program (grades 7-8) focuses on skill development, participation, discipline, enjoyment, competition, and the value of hard work, with winning not being the primary emphasis. High school teams (freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity) focus on refining skills, higher-level competition, academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

Requirements

New York State Coaching Certification
Valid First Aid course accepted as meeting NYS Coaching requirements
Valid Adult CPR certification accepted as meeting NYS Coaching requirements
Workshop - Child Abuse Identification
Workshop - School Violence Intervention and Prevention
Workshop - Dignity For All Students Act (DASA)
Fingerprint Clearance
School District Recommendation
Pass a fingerprint-based background check

Responsibilities

Coach student athletes in basketball at various levels (Varsity/JV/Modified/Unified - Head/Assistant).
Develop student athletes' skills, discipline, and understanding of competition.
Emphasize academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship at the high school level.
Foster participation, enjoyment, and the value of hard work in the modified program.
Prepare student athletes for higher levels of competition.
