About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is seeking dedicated and diverse educators to partner in its mission of ensuring all students graduate high school ready for college and career. The district serves approximately 19,000 students across 35 schools and programs. This specific position is for Corcoran High School Basketball Coaches (Varsity/JV/Modified/Unified - Head/Assistant). The district offers 120 athletic teams for students in grades 7-12, with a coaching staff of certified, dedicated individuals who care about student athletes. The modified program (grades 7-8) focuses on skill development, participation, discipline, enjoyment, competition, and the value of hard work, rather than winning. The high school teams (freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity) emphasize refinement of skills, higher-level competition, academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

Requirements

• New York State Coaching Certification
• Valid First Aid course
• Valid Adult CPR certification
• Workshop - Child Abuse Identification
• Workshop - School Violence Intervention and Prevention
• Workshop - Dignity For All Students Act (DASA)
• Fingerprint Clearance
• School District Recommendation
• Pass a fingerprint-based background check

• Previous Coaching Experience

Responsibilities

• Coach basketball teams at Corcoran High School (Varsity/JV/Modified/Unified - Head/Assistant).
• Develop student athletes' skills, discipline, and understanding of competition.
• Foster teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and academic development at the high school level.
• Encourage maximum participation and enjoyment in the modified program.
• Prepare student athletes for higher levels of competition.
