About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is seeking dedicated and diverse educators to partner in moving the district toward its goals. The district represents 35 schools and programs, serving approximately 19,000 students. Successful SCSD educators are passionately committed to urban education and all in for Syracuse students. This position is for ITC High School - Basketball Coaches (Varsity/JV/Unified - Head/Assistant). The district offers 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12. The coaching staff consists of certified, dedicated people who enjoy working with student athletes. In grades 7-8, a comprehensive modified program is offered, emphasizing skill development, participation, discipline, enjoyment, competition, and the value of hard work. At the high school level, a higher refinement of skill is necessary, and competition is viewed at a higher level. High school freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams strive for success, emphasizing the development of academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

Requirements

• New York State Coaching Certification
• Valid First Aid course accepted as meeting NYS Coaching requirements
• Valid Adult CPR certification accepted as meeting NYS Coaching requirements
• Workshop - Child Abuse Identification
• Workshop - School Violence Intervention and Prevention
• Workshop - Dignity For All Students Act (DASA)
• Fingerprint Clearance
• School District Recommendation
• Successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $102.50 to the candidate.

Responsibilities

• Coach basketball teams at the Varsity/JV/Unified - Head/Assistant levels.
• Prepare student athletes for higher levels of competition.

• Stress the development of academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship at the high school level.
