About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is seeking dedicated and diverse educators to partner in its goal of ensuring all students graduate high school ready for college and career. The district serves approximately 19,000 students across 35 schools and programs. Successful educators are passionately committed to urban education, believe all students can learn at high levels, and are willing to put student interests first. This position is for ITC High School Cheer Head Coaches (Varsity/JV/Modified - Fall/Winter), overseeing 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12. The coaching staff is composed of certified, dedicated individuals who work hard and care about student athletes. The modified program (grades 7-8) emphasizes skill development, participation, discipline, enjoyment, competition, and the value of hard work, rather than winning. The high school level (freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity) requires a higher refinement of skill and focuses on academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship, while striving for success.

New York State Coaching Certification
Valid First Aid course
Valid Adult CPR certification
Workshop - Child Abuse Identification
Workshop - School Violence Intervention and Prevention
Workshop - Dignity For All Students Act (DASA)
Fingerprint Clearance
School District Recommendation
Pass a fingerprint-based background check

Responsibilities

Coach Varsity/JV/Modified Cheerleading teams for Fall/Winter seasons.
Develop student athletes' skills, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Prepare young student athletes for higher levels of competition.
Emphasize academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship at the high school level.
Foster an environment where winning is not emphasized at the modified level, encouraging maximum participation.
Stress discipline, enjoyment of play, competition, and the rewards of hard work at the modified level.
