About The Position
The Syracuse City School District is seeking dedicated and diverse educators to partner with them in achieving their goals of improving student achievement. The district represents 35 schools and programs, serving approximately 19,000 students. This specific position is for PSLA (Fowler) High School - Cheer Head Coaches (Varsity/JV/Modified - Fall/Winter). The district offers 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12, with a coaching staff that consists of certified, dedicated individuals who enjoy working with student athletes. The modified program (grades 7-8) emphasizes discipline, enjoyment, competition, and the value of hard work, preparing students for higher levels of competition. High school teams (freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity) strive for success, focusing on academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Requirements
- New York State Coaching Certification
- Valid First Aid course
- Valid Adult CPR certification
- Workshop - Child Abuse Identification
- Workshop - School Violence Intervention and Prevention
- Workshop - Dignity For All Students Act (DASA)
- Fingerprint Clearance
- School District Recommendation
- Pass a fingerprint-based background check

Responsibilities
- Coach Varsity/JV/Modified Cheerleading teams for Fall/Winter seasons.
- Develop student athletes' skills, discipline, and teamwork.

- Emphasize academics, goal setting, leadership, and sportsmanship at the high school level.
- Prepare student athletes for higher levels of competition.
