About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is seeking dedicated and diverse educators to partner with them in achieving their goals. The district represents 35 schools and programs, serving approximately 19,000 students Pre-K–12. This specific position is for PSLA (Fowler) High School - Basketball Coaches (Varsity/JV/Modified/Unified - Head/Assistant). The district offers 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12, with a coaching staff of certified, dedicated individuals who enjoy working with student athletes. The modified program (grades 7-8) emphasizes skill development, participation, discipline, enjoyment, competition, and the value of hard work, rather than winning. The high school teams (freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity) focus on refining skills, higher-level competition, academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

Requirements

• New York State Coaching Certification
• Valid First Aid course
• Valid Adult CPR certification
• Workshop - Child Abuse Identification
• Workshop - School Violence Intervention and Prevention
• Workshop - Dignity For All Students Act (DASA)
• Fingerprint Clearance
• School District Recommendation
• Pass a fingerprint-based background check ($102.50 cost to candidate)

Responsibilities

• Coach basketball teams at the Varsity/JV/Modified/Unified levels (Head/Assistant).
• Develop student athletes' skills, discipline, and understanding of competition.
• Emphasize academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship at the high school level.
• Foster participation, enjoyment, and the value of hard work in the modified program.
• Prepare student athletes for higher levels of competition.
