Slack•Atlanta, GA
•$171,200 - $298,400

About The Position

Salesforce is seeking a Staff Technical Program Manager to lead programs for Slack’s Growth pillar, which owns the self-serve revenue funnel and runs experiments to drive annual contract value (ACV). This fast-moving product area requires technical expertise, strong cross-functional relationships, and the ability to bring structure to strategy, operations, execution, and scope while aligning and accelerating teams. The role partners with engineering, design, product management, data science, business operations, and senior leaders. The TPM is expected to understand software architecture and represent Product and Engineering as a domain expert in cross-functional discussions. The role turns complex collaboration needs into decisions, aligns partners around business-grounded plans, and remains accountable for delivery and results. It also designs systems and processes that support efficient collaboration and execution. The position leads Growth experiments and feature programs, owns planning and executive-review processes, and develops operational strategies, tools, and processes. It requires an end-to-end understanding of the product, customer needs, engineering work, and technical architecture, along with the ability to identify dependencies and risks, influence roadmap strategy, and track projects through committed dates and releases. Salesforce describes its benefits and resources as supporting employee well-being and balance. The position’s typical U.S. base salary range is $171,200–$273,000 annually, with a range of $205,800–$298,400 in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan-area locations. These ranges cover base salary only and exclude potential bonus, sales incentives, equity, and benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical technical experience.
  • Applied experience with Agile and Lean product development practices.
  • Technical grounding sufficient to converse credibly with engineers, scope technical projects, and identify architectural risks.
  • Experience using quantitative metrics and signals to prioritize work, measure impact, assess risk, and document decisions.
  • Experience establishing structure, defining workflows, and driving momentum when strategy and scope are fluid.
  • Experience leading complex programs across multidisciplinary teams with differing workflows and competing priorities.

  • Experience knowing when to handle work manually first and automate later, and breaking ambiguous tasks into milestones with explicit accuracy bars and deferrals.
  • Experience mentoring other Technical Program Managers and sharing practices that colleagues adopt.

Responsibilities

  • Partner strategically with senior product, design, and engineering leaders; build credibility and productive, trusting relationships with peers and stakeholders.
  • Manage the experiment portfolio, including velocity reporting, collision checks, launch tracking, and quality, and partner with Data Science and Business Operations to improve the experiment process.
  • Drive feature programs, including global expansion and Slackbot-infused initiatives to improve onboarding and invites.
  • Own quarterly and monthly planning processes, including executive reviews and roadmap alignment across marketing, product, design, and engineering.
  • Become a domain expert, explain engineering systems and process flows, identify dependencies and gaps, anticipate and mitigate risks, and recommend implementations with clear evaluation criteria.
  • Develop an end-to-end understanding of the product, customer needs, engineering work, and technical architecture; form and communicate a point of view on the product and roadmap grounded in business drivers and metrics, and influence strategy.
  • Translate high-level goals into a logical set of projects.
  • Develop, roll out, and improve operational strategies, tools, and processes, including weekly business reviews, impact-metric views in partnership with Data Science, and executive alignment.
  • Improve operational practices by building scalable agentic mechanisms such as AI-assisted tracking, automated status reporting, and risk reporting.
  • Create and maintain timelines, project plans, and communication artifacts so teams work from current, accurate information.
  • Proactively manage program schedules, risks, communications, and mitigation strategies.
  • Track projects end to end against committed dates and release schedules.
  • Mentor other Technical Program Managers and share tools, skills, and practices they can adopt.
  • Build tools that replace manual work and demonstrate them; evaluate AI output for quality and data handling.
  • Use quantitative metrics and signals to prioritize work, measure impact, assess risk, and document decisions for organizational reuse.
  • Establish structure, define workflows, and maintain momentum when strategy and scope are fluid; break ambiguous work into milestones with explicit accuracy bars and deferrals.
  • Lead complex programs involving multidisciplinary teams with differing workflows and competing priorities.
  • Support enterprise deals, including executive briefings and customer-facing communication.
