About The Position

Pinterest is seeking a highly technical, experienced Staff Technical Program Manager to join its Advanced Technology Group (ATG), a research-driven engineering organization advancing Pinterest’s ML/AI capabilities. The role partners directly with senior product and engineering leaders to turn AI strategy into shipped, reliable, and widely adopted capabilities. It spans research, ML platform, infrastructure, safety, and product teams. The Technical Program Manager will lead complex programs across organizational and functional boundaries, taking initiatives from research through production and adoption. The role establishes roadmaps, metrics, governance, planning and launch mechanisms, and communicates progress, risks, and decisions to executives and cross-functional partners. The position requires in-office collaboration 1–2 times per quarter and may be based anywhere in the country.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in technical program management, engineering, or related roles.
  • Track record of leading organization-level, multi-team ML/AI or platform programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Deep technical understanding of ML/AI systems, including training and post-training, evaluation, model serving, GPU capacity, release management, and platform engineering.
  • Ability to read design documents and challenge assumptions.
  • Proven ability to partner with VP- and Director-level Product and Engineering leaders and influence strategy and prioritization.
  • Experience designing planning processes and governance, including annual and multi-half planning, across several organizations.
  • Strong analytical skills, including SQL, dashboards, and using experiment and evaluation data to drive decisions.
  • Comfort working with high ambiguity, rapidly changing technology, and cross-functional Legal, Privacy, and Safety partners.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including explaining nuanced technical concepts to executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale processes and use AI tools to automate program management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with LLM or multimodal model adoption, such as adapting open-source models, using evaluation frameworks, and migrating workloads between model providers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-workstream programs across ML research, platform engineering, infrastructure, safety/compliance, and product, aligning teams under a shared roadmap, metrics, and governance.
  • Partner with VPs of Product and Engineering to translate strategy into workstreams, staffing, milestones, and clear decision-making.
  • Drive the path from research to production, including model development, evaluation, release management, serving capacity, and adoption by product teams.
  • Define and track metrics and guardrails for quality, cost, reliability, adoption, and cycle time, and use them to drive decisions.
  • Run technical design and decision forums, identify risks and tradeoffs early, and align senior leaders on a path forward.
  • Build scalable operating mechanisms for planning, reviews, intake, launch readiness, and post-mortems across teams working at different paces.
  • Use AI tooling to automate tracking, reporting, and program insights.
  • Communicate status, risks, and decisions to executives and cross-functional partners, tailoring technical detail to the audience.
