About The Position

Roo is seeking a Staff Product Manager to lead high-priority initiatives in the Veterinarian Business Unit, the supply side of its veterinary staffing marketplace. The role defines and executes product strategy in partnership with the BU’s General Manager, delivering measurable outcomes against business goals. The Product Manager works with engineering, design, data, marketing, sales, and product peers across business units, with significant autonomy and an iterative, growth-minded approach. The role reports to the GM of the Veterinarian Business Unit and is part of Roo’s product guild. The position is remote-first; employees based in San Francisco work in a hybrid arrangement, and occasional travel to the San Francisco coworking space for key meetings and team events is expected. The role focuses on helping veterinary professionals discover Roo, get to work, and build durable careers on the platform. This includes improving the path from sign-up through verification, approval, onboarding, and first shift; building tools and experiences for high-volume relief veterinarians; productizing promotions and incentives; partnering closely with the growth marketer; improving measurement and experimentation; co-owning BU strategy; and coordinating with other product teams to maintain a unified marketplace experience. Roo describes itself as a mission-driven company working to give animal healthcare professionals greater earning opportunities and career flexibility. Its platform connects veterinary professionals with animal hospitals. The company reports a network of more than 20,000 veterinary professionals and more than 9,000 animal hospitals, with over 3 million hours of healthcare provided and more than $200 million earned by veterinarians.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience working on supply, demand, or core marketplace teams; strong commerce or consumer-platform experience with equivalent funnel depth is also welcome.
  • Experience owning meaningful product surfaces across the funnel, such as search, recommendations, acquisition, onboarding, activation, and retention, and understanding where leverage exists.
  • Comfort with business unit economics, including take rate, price, contribution margin, and payback, and ability to discuss margin as well as engagement.
  • A strong track record of delivering measurable outcomes for users and the business across multiple teams or initiatives.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, including the ability to develop strategic narratives and communicate across organizational levels.
  • Systems thinking that balances big-picture strategy with operational precision, including experiment design, scalable systems, and impactful features.
  • Ability to use AI to accelerate personal and team work while taking ownership of the output.
  • Ability to influence and align teams and functions, drive progress without formal authority, and build strong partnerships.
  • A user-centered mindset, deep understanding of customer needs and behavior, advocacy for excellent UX, and ability to prototype ideas.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous startup environments, create clarity, and build from zero to one.

  • Marketplace experience in a high-growth environment.
  • Strong commerce or consumer-platform experience with equivalent funnel depth.

Responsibilities

  • Build products for high-volume relief veterinarians, including recurring bookings, multi-shift blocks, durable hospital relationships, and calendar and earnings tools.
  • Turn promotions and incentives into product capabilities, including targeting, automation, and guardrails for how promotional spending is allocated.
  • Partner closely with the BU growth marketer through shared conversion targets and joint experiments, and identify funnel bottlenecks together.
  • Work with the BU analyst to establish cohort definitions, attribution, and holdouts, improving instrumentation before setting the roadmap.
  • Co-own BU strategy with the GM, lead the product component, help decide what the BU will and will not pursue, and surface when a committed lever is not working.
  • Partner with Product Managers in other business units so hospitals and veterinary professionals experience one integrated product.
  • Communicate strategy, progress, and learnings clearly to leadership and across business units.
