About The Position

Commure is hiring a Staff Product Designer to own design direction for a healthcare domain spanning multiple workflows and product surfaces. The role turns ambiguous clinical and operational problems into a clear design agenda, shapes product direction with business partners, and leads design from discovery through launch. The work connects individual features into coherent experiences for people delivering care and running medical practices. This is a hands-on creative leadership role. The designer establishes creative direction for a domain, translates user insights and product strategy into concepts, interaction models, and a product vision, and strengthens the design judgment of experienced designers and cross-functional partners through communication and mentorship. The team works in a studio-like environment, using critique, realistic prototypes, AI-assisted workflows, and clear writing to explore ideas, test assumptions, and improve healthcare workflows in partnership with product, engineering, and operations. The position is full-time and based at Commure’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. It requires at least three days per week in the office and occasional travel to client sites for field research and direct user engagement. The role also carries information-security responsibilities, including following security policies, reporting confirmed or potential risks, and attesting to these requirements upon hire and annually.

Requirements

  • Track record leading complex, end-to-end product design with impact across multiple workflows and teams, including defining problems, shaping direction, and remaining accountable through delivery and iteration.
  • Portfolio demonstrating creative vision and product judgment, including establishing a direction, inspiring others, shipping strong ideas, and explaining tradeoffs and outcomes.
  • Exceptional interaction and visual design craft, including simplifying complex workflows, strong information architecture, clear interaction models, thoughtful visual hierarchy, accessibility, edge cases, and error prevention.
  • Strong research, problem-framing, and systems-thinking skills; ability to turn incomplete information and conflicting requests into actionable insights and design opportunities, build domain expertise, and reason about interactions among users, business operations, and technical systems.
  • Ability to influence beyond individual execution by aligning cross-functional partners, mentoring experienced designers, building trust, constructively challenging assumptions, and helping others make sound decisions.
  • Clear writing and storytelling skills, including framing problems in design briefs, articulating a domain-level vision, and explaining decisions to design, technical, business, and customer audiences.
  • Applied experience with AI-assisted design and prototyping tools such as Figma and AI-assisted development environments, including realistic and, when appropriate, code-based prototypes; ability to demonstrate improved learning, quality, or speed while protecting sensitive information and critically reviewing outputs.
  • Ownership and sound judgment under ambiguity, including proactively identifying important work, prioritizing competing workstreams, communicating commitments, and balancing speed with quality.
  • Genuine curiosity about healthcare and judgment to work in a high-trust environment.
  • Ability to work at the Mountain View, California headquarters at least three days per week and travel occasionally to client sites for field research and direct user engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design agenda for a domain by structuring ambiguous problems, connecting workflows across product surfaces, identifying opportunities, defining success with cross-functional partners, and assessing progress using evidence.
  • Shape product direction and roadmaps by synthesizing user research, customer needs, business priorities, and technical constraints, and partnering with Product and Engineering on sequenced investments and longer-term experience vision.
  • Set and carry creative direction through concepts, prototypes, and narratives; guide work through critique and implementation; and raise quality while enabling collaborators to contribute.
  • Lead research, including on-site observation and workflow testing, to understand clinical and practice operations, map interactions across people, processes, and systems, and identify unmet needs and root causes.
  • Create interaction models, refined interfaces, and realistic prototypes; validate ideas with users; address accessibility and edge cases; partner with engineers through implementation; and improve experiences using post-launch feedback.
  • Identify recurring workflow problems and contribute reusable patterns, components, and abstractions to the design system, helping teams improve coherence while respecting differences in user needs.
  • Align stakeholders using design briefs, workflow maps, prototypes, and narratives; explain opportunities and tradeoffs; resolve competing priorities; coordinate dependencies; and maintain alignment through execution.
  • Mentor experienced designers and influence cross-functional partners to strengthen design judgment and the quality or effectiveness of work across teams.
  • Follow organizational information-security policies, protect organizational assets, report confirmed or potential security events or risks, and attest to these requirements upon hire and annually.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Support for professional development and learning.
  • Meaningful ownership of complex healthcare problems, influence over product direction, and the opportunity to see work used in real-world settings.
  • Collaborative, studio-like design team that values critique, shared learning, and strong craft.
  • Opportunities to expand impact through hands-on design, mentorship, and improvements that help multiple teams succeed.
