Staff Product Designer
About The Position
fomo is hiring a Staff Product Designer to help unify its growing product suite—spot trading, tokenized equities, and perps—into a fast, intuitive, and distinctly fomo experience. The designer will own a product line end to end, from deciding what to build through shipping the finished product, and will set design direction in partnership with the founders, product, and engineering teams. This is a hands-on individual contributor role, with daily work in Figma and prototypes alongside frontend engineers. The designer will also shape the design systems, patterns, and standards used across product surfaces and help build the design team as the company grows. The position is in-person in New York City, with a strong in-person culture and an office in SoHo.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of product design experience, including experience operating at staff or lead level, or as an early designer owning a product from 0 to 1.
- A portfolio demonstrating exceptional craft and strategic impact, including products shaped and the outcomes they drove.
- Experience setting direction for a whole product or platform and building or evolving a design system adopted by others.
- A track record of influencing founders, product leaders, and engineering leaders without formal authority.
- Strong prototyping skills and comfort iterating and shipping with AI and new tools.
- Ability to thrive with autonomy and ownership on a small, flat team and enthusiasm for helping the team grow.
Nice To Haves
- Experience designing complex consumer financial products such as trading, investing, payments, or crypto, especially real-time and data-dense interfaces.
- Personal crypto trading experience.
Responsibilities
- Own the design of a product line, such as perps or tokenized equities, across mobile and web, from problem framing and strategy through launch.
- Set design direction with the founders and engineering team, turning ambiguous ideas into clear decisions about what to build, why, and in what order.
- Keep spot trading, tokenized equities, and perps coherent so users can move between them without having to relearn the experience.
- Lead the architecture of the fomo design system, including core patterns for trading, real-time data, charts, and social features, and establish standards for the team.
- Create high-fidelity prototypes to test interactions and flows, and partner with frontend engineers through implementation to refine details.
- Raise the team's craft bar through critique, clear design principles, and personal design work.
- Help build the design team by shaping hiring, interviewing, and onboarding, and mentoring designers who join.
- Advance the use of AI and new tools to design and ship faster.
