About The Position

Vanta is seeking a Staff Product Designer for the Activation team in its Self-Serve group. The team helps customers get key value from Vanta after purchase, with the goal of helping startups reach audit readiness in days rather than months using AI. Activation is an experimentation and execution team that also influences growth practices and consistent growth experiences across the company. The designer will set the experience vision for customer activation and carry it from strategy through shipped product. The role owns multi-quarter work, shapes the roadmap with product and engineering partners, and sets direction in an ambiguous problem space. It also champions craft, growth experience practices, and data-informed design; documents product strategy; and leads stakeholder forums to move large initiatives forward. The position reports to a Design Manager on the Self-Serve design team within Vanta's Experience Design organization. Vanta describes its mission as helping businesses earn and prove trust through continuous security monitoring and verification. The company was founded in 2018 and serves thousands of companies through its Trust Management Platform.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience designing and shipping high-quality B2B SaaS products, including work spanning multiple teams and quarters.
  • A track record of designing for business outcomes such as activation, onboarding completion, time-to-value, or retention, including the ability to report how metrics changed.
  • Experience shipping AI-powered or automation-heavy products, with a clear perspective on how people and agents should work together.
  • Ability to set direction in ambiguous, high-stakes problem spaces by framing problems, writing briefs, making principled tradeoffs, and presenting a clear position.
  • Strong written strategy skills, including experience authoring product briefs, strategy documents, or roadmaps used by leadership to make decisions.
  • Experience leading large-scale cross-functional initiatives and running recurring meetings, reviews, and rituals to align stakeholders and keep work moving.
  • Fluency with product analytics and experimentation, including defining success metrics, designing tests, and adapting based on results.
  • Exceptional interaction, visual, and content craft for dense, complex product interfaces, and experience building patterns that scale across teams.
  • Strong storytelling and communication skills to align squads, partner teams, and executives and maintain momentum through setbacks.
  • Experience working with other designers on larger efforts, along with a habit of mentoring and providing candid, useful feedback.
  • A portfolio showing end-to-end product work, reasoning behind key decisions, and delivered outcomes.
  • Uses AI in day-to-day work to amplify skills and outcomes, builds fluency through experimentation, and applies sound judgment to maintain a high quality bar.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with product-led growth, onboarding, or guided-setup experiences, especially for small teams or founders.
  • Experience designing agentic workflows, conversational interfaces, or human-in-the-loop review flows.
  • Comfort prototyping in code or with AI tools to test ideas quickly with customers and partners.
  • Familiarity with security, compliance, or GRC; this is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Set the end-to-end experience vision for Activation, from first login through activation, and translate it into a roadmap that the squad can ship incrementally.
  • Drive product direction and roadmap decisions with the product manager and engineering manager, using a clear design point of view supported by customer evidence and data.
  • Design agent-first experiences, deciding what the Vanta Agent does autonomously and where people review and approve actions.
  • Create reusable AI patterns and extend existing patterns so teams can build guided, agentic experiences consistently.
  • Define activation outcomes, partner with Data to instrument them, and run experiments and iterations to improve results.
  • Lead customer discovery with cross-functional partners and lean engineering teams, and communicate findings to leadership.
  • Align partner teams so growth experiences feel cohesive across the product.
  • Document product strategy through briefs and point-of-view documents that explain the problem, proposed bet, and plan.
  • Lead large, multi-team initiatives from kickoff through launch by running reviews and working sessions, tracking decisions and dependencies, and keeping stakeholders aligned.
  • Raise interaction, visual, and content craft across Self-Serve through critique, mentorship, and close partnership with engineering through launch.
  • Mentor designers and help uphold the design team's hiring bar.
