Staff AI Deployment Strategist

Altana•Brooklyn, WA

About The Position

Altana’s AI Deployment team brings its platform into production within customer businesses, guiding engagements from signed contract to realized value. The Staff AI Deployment Strategist leads customer discovery, identifies where Altana’s platform and agentic AI can improve outcomes, and designs solutions for AI Deployment Engineers to build and operate. The role serves as a strategic counterpart to customers on how AI fits their business and partners with sales, customer success, engineering, machine learning, and product teams to align commitments with delivery. The Strategist maps customer workflows, assesses data, systems, and process maturity, and prioritizes use cases by value, feasibility, and data readiness. They design end-to-end agentic AI workflows, including agent responsibilities, supported decisions, data and systems of record, and human oversight. They draft prompts, system instructions, and evaluation criteria; prototype concepts on Altana’s platform; document designs and acceptance criteria; and remain engaged through build, validation, and launch. The role defines measurable engagement outcomes, drives adoption through training and enablement, and develops business cases for expansion. It also supports engagement scoping, returns field learning to product teams, and creates reusable solution patterns, discovery guides, and templates. The position may be based at Altana’s Brooklyn, NY or Washington, D.C. hub with hybrid work flexibility. The stated U.S. base salary range is $165,000–$195,000, with competitive equity grants included in the majority of full-time offers and a discretionary bonus or variable compensation plan depending on the role.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years in customer-facing solutioning or advisory roles, such as solutions consulting, solution architecture, sales engineering, technical consulting, product management, or implementation with design-level scope.
  • Track record of turning ambiguous customer problems into delivered solutions with external stakeholders, on real deadlines and with real consequences.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to run discovery workshops, present to executives, and explain designs to engineers.
  • Product instincts and structured thinking, including the ability to identify the problem behind a request, find a minimal solution, and make progress with partial information.
  • Bias toward repeatable solutions and ability to identify patterns across customer requests.
  • Strong working understanding of agentic AI systems, including LLM-powered agents, tool and function calling, retrieval-augmented generation, and human-in-the-loop design, as well as their practical strengths and limitations.
  • Hands-on prompt design and evaluation skills, including writing prompts and evaluation criteria, diagnosing shortcomings in agent output, and describing how to address them.
  • Comfort with SQL for exploring and validating data.
  • Ability to read REST API documentation, Swagger/OpenAPI specifications, and data models well enough to design and scope integrations with engineers.
  • Daily practical use of AI tools such as Claude, Claude Code, or Cursor.
  • Enough understanding of data pipelines, cloud-hosted systems, and ML systems to assess feasibility.
  • Production coding is not required.
