About The Position

Cox Fleet, a Cox Automotive business, provides integrated uptime solutions, maintenance, repair, and fleet support for vehicles and equipment ranging from Class 8 trucks and 53-foot trailers to light-duty vehicles. The Sr Mobile Diesel Mechanic works independently in the field, providing mobile service and maintenance support for light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles. The technician performs DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs, and takes home an assigned company service vehicle. The position works Monday through Friday on a variable shift. A $5,000 new-hire bonus is paid in two installments: 50% after 30 days and 50% after 180 days. Cox Fleet provides technical training and a dedicated career path, along with tools and equipment such as a company-issued service truck, tablet, and cellphone. Candidates must meet DOT-related screening and physical requirements and comply with applicable safety and regulatory policies.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED and five years of experience in a related field; alternatively, a degree or certification beyond a high school diploma/GED in a related discipline and three years of experience, or seven years of experience in a related field.
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform the job duties.
Complete all company-required training.
Successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical before employment. A current DOT medical card with more than four months remaining before expiration may be submitted in place of a DOT physical; a physical is required if the card has four months or less remaining.
Be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
Hold a valid driver’s license from the state of residence and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods and perform moderately heavy labor.
Ability to exert oneself physically over extended periods, including performing repetitive tasks.
Communicate information succinctly and in an organized manner, and engage in effective two-way communication with individuals and groups.
Determine the types of tools and equipment needed.
Accurately judge relative distance between objects and the observer.

Responsibilities

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile or field environment.
Make minor adjustments and repairs to truck equipment, including electrical, brake, and cooling systems; starters and alternators; fan clutches; engine electronics; steering systems; gas and diesel engines; transmissions; clutches; and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including air-conditioning systems and other vehicle systems and components.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Road-test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation.
Identify problems and use sound judgment to evaluate information and possible solutions.
Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck, including periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle and perform safety checks and daily pre- and post-trip inspections.
Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
Manage concurrent assignments and prioritize work and time effectively.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work to company standards and upload photographs of work performed, parts used, and findings to repair orders using a company-issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
Complete DOT forms and other documentation accurately and promptly.
Work independently, manage a daily schedule, and maintain productivity within or close to Standard Repair Times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
Communicate with management and support teams by email or phone to obtain repair-estimate approvals, purchase order numbers, or discuss repair-order findings.
Perform work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies and applicable OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
