Sr. Metrology Engineer
About The Position
The Sr. Metrology Engineer ensures laboratory instruments and critical equipment used in pharmaceutical development and testing are calibrated, maintained, qualified, and compliant with regulatory requirements. The role supports reliable laboratory operations by managing equipment lifecycle activities, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring systems meet GMP, GLP, and internal quality standards. The position performs and coordinates calibration, maintains standards and traceability, reviews results and supports investigations, and keeps equipment records accurate. It also oversees equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, supports qualification and requalification activities, maintains compliant equipment documentation, participates in audits and inspections, and provides technical guidance to laboratory staff. This is an on-site position.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metrology, Life Sciences, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 2–5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated laboratory environments.
- Hands-on experience with calibration, equipment maintenance, and qualification activities.
- Familiarity with GMP/GLP, data integrity, and regulatory expectations for laboratory equipment.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform and/or coordinate calibration of laboratory instruments according to approved procedures and schedules.
- Maintain calibration standards and reference materials, with traceability to national and international metrology bodies.
- Review calibration results, assess out-of-tolerance conditions, and support investigations as needed.
- Maintain accurate calibration records in the equipment management system.
- Execute and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance for laboratory equipment, including coordinating with external vendors.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure timely resolution to minimize downtime.
- Lead or support IQ/OQ/PQ equipment qualification activities for new and existing laboratory instruments.
- Support periodic reviews and requalification assessments.
- Maintain equipment files, logs, certificates, and electronic records in accordance with data integrity principles.
- Participate in audits and inspections by providing documentation and technical support.
- Provide technical guidance to laboratory staff on proper equipment use and care.
