Sr. CMM/Metrology Engineer

Coastal Machine & Supply, Inc.•Carencro, LA
•$90 - $105•Onsite

About The Position

Coastal Machine & Supply is hiring a Senior CMM / Metrology Engineer to establish metrology as a repeatable, documented capability supporting the company’s growing defense and space work. This new role owns whether and how quickly new parts can be inspected, and ensures inspection capability is proven before it is used to support production commitments. The engineer will own metrology standards for new and existing part families, including controlled, version-managed CMM programs built to each print’s datum scheme and repeatable inspection-fixturing standards. The role is also responsible for measurement-system integrity, new-family inspection readiness, and shared knowledge transfer with the CMM programmer. The position is onsite in Carencro, Louisiana. Work is split between a temperature-controlled inspection environment and the production floor, with regular movement between them.

Requirements

  • Deep CMM programming and GD&T interpretation skills.
  • Ability to independently interpret a part’s datum scheme and build a controlled inspection program to it, aligning print, machining-fixture, and CMM datums.
  • Strong MSA / Gage R&R judgment, including the ability to distinguish measurement-system error from genuine part variation.
  • A track record of building metrology standards—including programs, method sheets, and fixturing standards—that another person can execute independently.

Nice To Haves

  • PC-DMIS programming experience; comparable platforms such as Calypso or PolyWorks are transferable with a strong GD&T foundation.
  • Hexagon CMM hardware experience.
  • SPC fluency, including control charts, control limits, and distinguishing common-cause from special-cause variation.
  • Aerospace, defense, or space manufacturing background and familiarity with AS9100 / AS9102.
  • ProShop or comparable ERP/QMS experience.
  • Experience preparing FAIR / source-inspection packages for customer or government source inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Own the metrology standard for new and existing part families, including one controlled, version-managed CMM program per family built to the print’s datum scheme.
  • Establish inspection-fixturing standards that locate parts repeatably regardless of who operates the equipment.
  • Prove measurement-system repeatability through Gage R&R / MSA before claiming capability, and distinguish part variation from measurement error.
  • Establish documented and proven inspection for each new part family quickly enough to support production commitments.
  • Feed new-family metrology readiness into new-program go/no-go decisions.
  • Co-develop every standard with the CMM programmer so metrology capability is shared and not dependent on one person.
