Renesas Electronics•Austin, TX

About The Position

Renesas is seeking a Director / Senior Director to build and lead the Platform team responsible for the end-to-end technical and commercial definition of its next-generation MPU platforms. The role establishes the platform family architecture, derivative and segmentation strategy, and roadmap for industrial automation, Physical AI and robotics, multi-modal AI, and general-purpose embedded markets. It leads IP planners and solution definers across vision and multi-modal subsystems, industrial and robotics solutions, memory/DDR, performance benchmarking, and platform planning. The position turns requirements from product lines, regional business teams, key accounts, and technology-domain owners into a prioritized platform baseline. It sets platform architecture and resolves cross-domain trade-offs involving area, power, bandwidth, schedule, and resources. The role also owns platform-level IP decision standards, the business case, security and functional safety strategy, and representation of the platform to executive leadership, engineering, customers, and field teams. The role is part of the EPAIAP Business Division's Central Functions organization and works closely with the Vision & Edge/Physical AI, Real-Time & Industrial Networking, and General Purpose Product Lines, as well as Pathfinding & Technical Assistant, Execution & PMO, and Edge AI/Product SW leadership. It reports into the Central Functions organization.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in semiconductor or embedded product planning, SoC/platform architecture, or IP planning.
  • Significant experience defining or architecting MPU/SoC platforms that shipped and succeeded in the market.
  • Demonstrated people leadership, including building, hiring for, or leading a high-performing technical planning or architecture team.
  • Broad technical range across vision and multi-modal sensing, AI acceleration, memory/DDR subsystems, connectivity, and security, with enough depth to work credibly with specialists.
  • Proven ability to arbitrate cross-domain trade-offs and maintain organizational alignment after decisions.
  • Commercial fluency in cost structure, margin, segmentation, pricing, and multi-year product lifecycle considerations.
  • Executive presence and ability to defend platform strategy and trade-offs to senior leaders, business-review audiences, and technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Build, lead, and grow the Platform team; hire, mentor, and set technical standards for IP planners and solution definers.
  • Convert requirements from product line leads, regional business teams, key accounts, and technology-domain owners into a prioritized, traceable platform baseline.
  • Arbitrate resource allocation and technical trade-offs across platform domains, including area, power, memory bandwidth, and schedule; quantify options and drive decisions.
  • Set and enforce standards for IP make-versus-buy-versus-license analysis, technical due diligence, and requirements sign-off.
  • Own the platform business case with Finance and the Business Unit, including volume and mix assumptions, cost and margin modeling, pricing structure, and lifecycle and longevity commitments.
  • Own platform-level security and functional safety strategy, including secure boot, root of trust, key management, target standards and integrity levels, and certification roadmap.
  • Partner with engineering leadership on feasibility, budget consumption, schedule, and process-node capabilities.
  • Represent platform strategy to executive leadership, business and investment reviews, lead customers, and field teams.
  • Maintain a platform-level view of competitors, technology, ecosystems, and software stacks.
  • Set direction for the team, unblock decisions, and ensure the quality and coherence of its work.
