About The Position

The Specialty Artist – MAC maximizes sales for the MAC brand, including color cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance, by learning guests’ individual needs and assisting with merchandise selection and purchases. The role represents Ulta Beauty and MAC, maintains store standards for cleanliness and replenishment, and supports the Experience Manager through sales and service performance, guest service and associate culture, and operational procedures and compliance. It requires professional-caliber makeup artistry, exceptional guest service, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge.

The position also supports MAC and store sales goals through personalized makeup demonstrations, applications, lessons, skincare analyses, appointments, and in-store events. The Specialty Artist builds guest relationships and an active clientele, shares brand and product knowledge, participates in training, collaborates with store teams, and follows Ulta Beauty and MAC operating, hygiene, and loss-prevention standards.

Requirements

• Cosmetology or demonstrator license where required by state law.
• Demonstrated competency in sales, products, and service.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to handle guest concerns positively and proactively and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Attend brand-sponsored trainings.

Responsibilities

• Meet or exceed MAC brand sales and service goals and contribute to store goals for retail and service sales, guest loyalty, omni-channel, and retail shrink.
• Build and maintain customer relationships, keep in contact with a growing preferred guest list, and follow up on guest inquiries.
• Greet and engage guests, personalize service, offer samples, and recommend complementary products and services.
• Conduct professional-caliber makeup demonstrations, applications, lessons, skincare analyses, and product demonstrations according to MAC and Ulta Beauty standards.
• Study and practice skill certification requirements and complete appropriate skill sets within the specified time frame.
• Stay informed about promotions and marketing initiatives and communicate them to guests.
• Book appointments and support services and in-store events that deliver a strong guest experience and meet sales goals.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, services, ingredients, and benefits during work time.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
• Contribute to an inclusive environment for teammates, peers, and guests.
• Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Maintain and update an active MAC clientele portfolio.
• Represent Ulta Beauty and MAC by sharing product knowledge, makeup application techniques, trends, and MAC programs and philosophies, including Back to MAC.
• Maintain relationships with MAC brand partners through required training and participation in events and promotions.
• Participate in ongoing brand and category education.
• Collaborate with store managers and associates to help grow the business.
• Follow Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards, as well as the Ulta Beauty and MAC dress code.
• Keep the assigned work area replenished, signed, and faced; ensure testers are available and maintained according to hygiene standards.
• Maintain store and MAC operational standards, participate in the MAC recycling program, and keep assigned areas clean.
• Participate in merchandise resets, planograms, marketing displays, physical inventory, and shipment processing using provided technology and best practices.
• Protect company assets by following loss-prevention practices and providing exceptional guest service.
• Complete other operational tasks as directed.
