About The Position

The Specialty Artist – MAC maximizes sales for the MAC brand, including color cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance, by understanding guests’ needs, helping them select and purchase merchandise, and maintaining store standards for cleanliness and replenishment. The role represents Ulta Beauty and MAC to guests and supports the Experience Manager through sales and service performance, guest service and associate culture, and adherence to operating procedures and compliance standards. It requires professional-caliber makeup artistry, exceptional guest service, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge.

The artist builds customer relationships, provides personalized makeup demonstrations, applications, lessons, skincare analyses, and product demonstrations, and supports appointments, in-store events, and promotions. They maintain an active MAC clientele portfolio, develop product and industry knowledge, participate in brand training, and collaborate with store teams and brand partners. The role also involves maintaining merchandise, testers, displays, and the MAC area; participating in inventory and shipment processes; following hygiene, loss prevention, policy, and operational standards; and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma is preferred.
• Cosmetology or demonstrator license where required by state law.
• Demonstrated competency in sales, products, and service.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to handle guest concerns positively and proactively and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to attend brand-sponsored trainings.

• Cosmetics artistry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Meet or exceed MAC brand sales and service goals and contribute to store goals for retail and service sales, guest loyalty, omnichannel, and retail shrink.
• Build and maintain customer relationships, keep in contact with a growing preferred guest list, and follow up on guest inquiries.
• Greet and engage guests, personalize service, offer samples, and recommend complementary products or services.
• Conduct makeup demonstrations, applications, lessons, skincare analyses, and product demonstrations to MAC and Ulta Beauty standards.
• Study and practice Skill Certification requirements and complete appropriate skill sets within specified time frames.
• Stay informed about promotions and marketing initiatives and communicate them to guests.
• Book appointments and support services and in-store events that provide a strong guest experience and meet sales goals.
• Stay current on industry trends, products, services, ingredients, and benefits during work time.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
• Contribute to an inclusive environment for teammates, peers, and guests.
• Explain the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to guests on the salesfloor.
• Maintain and update an active MAC clientele portfolio.
• Represent Ulta Beauty and MAC by sharing product knowledge, makeup techniques, trend information, and MAC programs and philosophies, including Back to MAC.
• Maintain relationships with MAC brand partners through required training and participation in in-store events and promotions.
• Participate in ongoing brand and category training to support professional development and MAC sales performance.
• Collaborate with managers and associates to help grow the business.
• Follow Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards, as well as the Ulta Beauty and MAC dress code.
• Keep the assigned work area replenished, signed, and faced, and maintain testers in accordance with hygiene standards.
• Maintain store and MAC operational standards, including participating in the MAC recycling program and keeping assigned areas clean.
• Participate in merchandise resets, planograms, marketing displays, physical inventory, and shipment processing using provided technology and best practices.
• Protect company assets by following loss prevention practices and providing exceptional guest service.
• Complete other operational tasks as directed.
