About The Position

The Specialty Artist – MAC maximizes sales in the MAC brand, including color cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance, by engaging guests, determining their needs, and assisting with merchandise selection and purchases. The role maintains store standards, cleanliness, and replenishment, and represents Ulta Beauty and MAC products, image, and culture. The artist supports the Experience Manager through sales and service performance, guest service and associate culture, and adherence to operating procedures and compliance standards. The position requires professional-caliber makeup artistry, exceptional guest service, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge. The Specialty Artist conducts personalized makeup demonstrations, applications, and lessons, skincare analyses, and product demonstrations; builds guest relationships and maintains an active clientele portfolio; supports appointments, services, events, promotions, and loyalty initiatives; and stays current on industry and product trends. The role also maintains merchandise presentation and testers, supports inventory and shipment processes, follows policies and loss-prevention practices, and upholds cleanliness and operational standards.

Requirements

High school diploma is preferred.
Cosmetology or demonstrator license where required by state law.
Ability to demonstrate significant competency in sales, products, and service.
Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to handle guest concerns positively and proactively and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to attend brand-sponsored trainings.
Frequent mobility during shifts; frequent standing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, and twisting; continuous lifting and/or moving of up to 10 lbs.; and continuous coordination and manipulation of objects.

Responsibilities

Meet or exceed MAC brand sales and service goals and contribute to store goals for retail and service sales, guest loyalty, omni-channel, and retail shrink.
Build and maintain guest relationships, manage an active preferred guest list, and follow up on guest inquiries.
Greet and engage guests, personalize service, offer samples, and recommend complementary products or services.
Conduct makeup demonstrations, applications, lessons, skincare analyses, and product demonstrations to MAC and Ulta Beauty standards.
Study and practice Skill Certification requirements and complete appropriate skill sets within specified time frames.
Stay informed about and communicate brand and store promotions and marketing initiatives.
Book appointments and support services and in-store events that deliver guest experiences and meet sales goals.
Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, including their ingredients and benefits.
Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
Contribute to an inclusive environment for teammates, peers, and guests.
Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
Maintain and update an active clientele portfolio for MAC brand sales.
Represent Ulta Beauty and MAC as a brand ambassador by sharing product knowledge, makeup techniques, trends, and MAC programs and philosophies, including Back to MAC.
Maintain relationships with MAC brand partners by participating in required trainings and executing in-store events and promotions.
Participate in ongoing brand and category training to support professional development and MAC sales performance.
Collaborate with managers and associates throughout the store to help grow the business.
Follow Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards, and adhere to the Ulta Beauty and MAC dress code.
Keep assigned work areas replenished, signed, and faced, and ensure testers are available and maintained according to hygiene standards.
Maintain store and MAC operational standards, including participating in the MAC recycling program and keeping assigned areas clean.
Participate in merchandise resets, planograms, marketing displays, physical inventory, and shipment processing using provided technology and best practices.
Protect company assets by following loss-prevention practices and providing exceptional guest service.
Complete other operational tasks as directed.
