About The Position

Aflac is hiring a Solutions Engineer to analyze business needs and design technical solutions, with a focus on systems engineering, cloud compatibility, infrastructure, and integration of application systems. The role works with software engineers, sales and product teams, project teams, and internal and external clients to develop achievable solutions that align with technical standards, improve current systems and processes, and optimize cloud resources.

The position participates in multiple project teams, supports installation and maintenance of operating systems, subsystems, software, and hardware, provides technical consulting on complex infrastructure issues, and mentors less experienced personnel. The Solutions Engineer also evaluates technology options, recommends design and performance improvements, and maintains current knowledge of systems software, IT architecture, products, services, processes, and methodologies.

Depending on location within the continental United States, this role is hybrid or remote. Employees living within 50 miles of the Aflac offices in Columbus, Georgia, or Columbia, South Carolina, are expected to work in the office at least 60% of the work week and from home for the remainder. Employees living more than 50 miles away work remotely from home, though office visits may occasionally be requested based on business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or another related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 8 years of solutions-based data processing experience, concentrated in systems engineering, operating systems, and network design, configuration, and management.

Responsibilities

• Analyze business needs and design corresponding technical solutions.
• Collaborate with software engineers to ensure solutions are achievable and align with technical standards.
• Recommend improvements to current systems and processes.
• Ensure solutions are cloud-compatible and optimize cloud resources.
• Oversee project timelines and deliverables.
• Participate on multiple project teams; install operating systems or major subsystems and associated software and hardware; enhance activities; and perform related maintenance and support.
• Back up the manager as necessary.
• Mentor less experienced personnel in areas of expertise.
• Provide expertise to internal and external clients as needed regarding business solution problems.
• Recommend design and performance improvements based on analysis of assigned specifications; plan, design, and implement software solutions using appropriate software engineering processes.
• Provide technical consulting on highly complex issues involving organizational infrastructure and integration of application systems into the infrastructure.
• Maintain current understanding of systems software, IT architecture, products, services, processes, and methodologies; evaluate technology options and make recommendations to management.
• Perform other duties as required.
