About The Position

Friday Harbor is hiring a Solutions Engineer to work directly with customers and write code that solves their problems. The role helps lenders launch on Friday Harbor and makes the platform work for their needs as they grow. It is a hands-on engineering position, with most time spent in the codebase building and improving integrations, adding product capabilities, and resolving problems on real loans. The engineer owns work from the first customer conversation through production, collaborates with senior engineers, and brings customer learnings back into the product. The role works with lenders on pilots and launches, API and loan origination system integrations, technical issues, and decisions about how to use the platform. It also contributes to engineering decisions, code review, and broader engineering work. The position is US remote; candidates must currently live in the US and be authorized to work for any US employer.

Requirements

  • Usually at least 2 years of experience as a software engineer, plus practical experience working directly with customers, whether in engineering or a role such as support.
  • Ability to write production-quality Python and SQL.
  • Experience building and debugging API integrations and working with messy data formats such as JSON and XML.
  • Ability to navigate an unfamiliar codebase, read logs, and trace problems to their causes.
  • Experience working directly with customers and comfort leading customer meetings, setting clear expectations, and serving as the technical point of contact.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical decisions to underwriters, operations leaders, and engineers.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, complete projects, and keep customers and teammates aligned.
  • Sound product judgment: understand underlying problems, evaluate product improvements versus custom solutions, and work through tradeoffs with customers and engineering.
  • Must currently live in the US and have work authorization for any US employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI products, including setting customer expectations around accuracy and edge cases.
  • Experience working with regulated customers and their security, compliance, and vendor review processes.
  • Experience as an early engineer at a startup.

Responsibilities

  • Work with customers to understand their problems, define an approach, and deliver code, including supporting pilots and launches, improving workflows, and building features.
  • Help lenders adopt new APIs and troubleshoot API and loan origination system integrations; develop tooling and templates to make future integrations more efficient.
  • Investigate technical customer issues with support and sales, identify causes, and coordinate resolution across teams.
  • Advise customers on technical decisions and explain platform capabilities and appropriate approaches.
  • Contribute to engineering decisions, review code across the codebase, participate in broader engineering work, and translate customer needs into product improvements.
  • Own customer-facing engineering work from initial conversations through production, keeping customers and teammates aligned on progress, decisions, and next steps.
