Software Engineer, Front-End (New York)
About The Position
Superhuman is hiring a Front-End Software Engineer to build interfaces for its AI productivity platform. The role spans products including Go, Mail, Docs, Grammarly, and enterprise offerings, with work across browser extensions, desktop apps, and web surfaces. Engineers build real-time AI experiences, inline agent suggestions, document editors, collaboration features, admin controls, and no-code agent-building tools. The work involves creating refined, responsive user interfaces and solving interaction challenges involving streaming content, complex state, and multiple platforms. Engineers collaborate with Product, Design, and ML/AI teams, contribute to a culture of documentation, testing, and user experience, and mentor junior engineers. The role is based in Superhuman’s NYC office in the Flatiron District, with a hybrid schedule requiring at least two days per week in the office, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience in front-end development.
- Expert-level knowledge of TypeScript and/or JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Extensive experience with ReactJS or similar UI frameworks, modern web client development, and testing tools.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including knowledge of algorithms and data structures.
- Fluency with AI coding tools such as Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code, and a point of view on how they affect software development.
- Deep understanding of continuous integration and delivery methods.
- Strong product instincts and commitment to a high-quality end-user experience.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, manage priorities across multiple projects proactively, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Nice To Haves
- Experience integrating AI/ML into product surfaces.
- Experience with browser extensions, cross-platform web clients, or shipping front-end code across multiple surfaces such as web, desktop, or mobile.
Responsibilities
- Build interfaces for AI-powered products, including real-time chat experiences, inline agent suggestions, document editors, and agent builder tools.
- Design and implement rich, responsive user interfaces in React and TypeScript.
- Work across the Superhuman product suite, including Go, Mail, Docs, Grammarly, or enterprise products.
- Target high availability for consumer and enterprise customers.
- Solve interaction design challenges involving streaming content, complex state management, and multi-surface interactions.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and ML/AI teams to translate AI capabilities into intuitive user experiences.
- Contribute to an engineering culture emphasizing documentation, testing, and user experience.
- Mentor and grow junior engineers.
