About The Position

The Software Engineer / Technical Delivery Lead will provide hands-on software development and lead technical delivery for a suite of applications supporting a federal project. The role will assess current applications and the target environment, define and lead an executable deployment approach, address issues affecting user acceptance testing (UAT) readiness, and deliver features, performance improvements, and bug fixes based on user and client feedback. The position works closely with project management, architecture, business analysis, UX, quality assurance, DevOps, infrastructure, and other contributors to coordinate implementation and production delivery. The role is based in Tysons, Virginia, and is hybrid. The engineer will assess existing deployment models, dependencies, configuration, interfaces, data needs, and product limitations; learn the client's development, test, and production environments; identify gaps between current applications and client-environment requirements; and guide applications toward production readiness and client-controlled DevOps pipelines. The role also includes troubleshooting application and integration issues, supporting release readiness, collaborating with cloud and infrastructure teams on AWS services, contributing to development and code reviews, and communicating technical risks and decisions to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust determination.
  • At least 5 years of professional software development experience, including production application delivery.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Computer Engineering, or an associate degree plus two additional years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience with production application deployment, environment configuration, dependency resolution, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong ownership, prioritization, and decision-making under a short delivery timeline.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and client teams and communicate technical risks, dependencies, decisions, and tradeoffs to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies, frameworks, and tools to solve unfamiliar technical challenges and meet evolving project needs.
  • Proficiency with Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS/SCSS, RxJS, and responsive web application development.
  • Node.js and TypeScript service development, including Express or an equivalent framework.
  • Experience with REST/JSON APIs, OpenAPI, JSON Schema, API validation, authentication, authorization, and integration testing.
  • Proficiency with core AWS services, including Lambda, API Gateway, Aurora PostgreSQL/RDS, MSK (Kafka), ElastiCache for Redis, S3, and EventBridge.
  • Native iOS and Android application development using Swift and Kotlin.
  • SQL proficiency and hands-on experience designing and optimizing relational databases.
  • Secure software development practices, including input validation, dependency and vulnerability management, secrets handling, secure coding review, and remediation of security findings.
  • Git-based DevOps practices, including source control, pull-request workflows, branching, code reviews, automated build and deployment pipelines, environment configuration across development, test, UAT, and production, and release management.

Nice To Haves

  • An existing favorable federal Public Trust determination is preferred.
  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, mTLS, and role- or claims-based access controls.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development and productivity tools such as Codex, with human review and validation of generated code and related artifacts.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the current deployment model, dependencies, configuration, interfaces, data needs, and known limitations of the product suite.
  • Learn the client's development, test, and production environments, including deployment procedures, configuration boundaries, and operational constraints.
  • Identify gaps between the applications' current state and the conditions required to run successfully in the client environment.
  • Guide the transition from initial application states to production-ready implementations and to the client's DevOps environment and delivery pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot complex application and integration issues and support release-readiness activities.
  • Collaborate with cloud and infrastructure teams to configure, deploy, and support AWS services required for application delivery and operation.
  • Contribute directly to development tasks, technical estimates, code reviews, dependency resolution, and integration activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and review web, API, mobile, service, and business-logic components.
  • Communicate technical risks, decisions, dependencies, and tradeoffs clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
