About The Position

The Department of Sociology at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer Pool. We are seeking experienced, well-organized, and student-centered individuals to teach in various sociology subject areas. This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available. Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.

Requirements

  • At least a Master’s degree in Sociology or a related field.
  • Demonstrate ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
  • Must be available on very short notice.
  • A complete online application must be submitted.
  • Provide a Cover Letter which includes a statement of which courses qualified to teach.
  • Provide a Curriculum Vitae.
  • Provide a Copy of your unofficial transcripts conferring your highest terminal degree.
  • Provide a list of three (3) references with contact information.
  • Provide an Inclusive Excellence Statement - This statement provides the candidate’s unique perspective on their past and present contributions to and future aspirations for promoting and engaging with a diverse student population. This statement aims to showcase the candidate’s professional experience, intellectual commitments, and/or willingness to teach and create an academic environment supportive of all students.
  • Provide a Sample of course syllabi.
  • Provide Teaching Evaluations (if available).
  • Three letters of recommendation (required before official hire).
  • Official transcripts from the institution’s Registrar’s office emailed to [email protected] (required before official hire).
  • Applicants will be required to disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last 7 years only after a determination is made that they meet the minimum qualifications for the position, and before an offer of employment is extended.
  • Applicants who reach the final stages of the application process must also sign a release form that authorizes the release of information by the applicant’s current and/or former employers to the CSU concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct.

  • Teach in the following subject areas: Sociology 201 Social Media and Social Interaction, Sociology 300 Social Work, Sociology 305 Social Work Practice, Sociology 308 Writing for Sociology, Sociology 325 The American Drug Scene, Sociology 345 Sociology of Communication, Sociology 350 Social Relationships and Emotions, Sociology 353 Sociology of Children & Youth, Sociology 365 Law and Society, Sociology 385 Family Violence, Sociology 410 Theories of Social Behavior, Sociology 411 Criminology, Sociology 413 Juvenile Delinquency, Sociology 415 Mass Incarceration.
  • Other courses may become available.
  • Regular performance evaluations of part-time lecturers are made by the department in accord with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070.
  • These performance evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future and continued teaching assignments.
  • In some instances, syllabi, assignments and reading material will be reviewed by the departmental personnel committee.
