The Department of Sociology at Sacramento State is seeking qualified candidates for its lecturer pool to teach lower- and upper-division courses. As one of the largest departments at the university, it has approximately 16 tenured and tenure-track faculty members and 15 lecturers serving over 500 undergraduate majors. Faculty expertise covers a broad range of sociological topics with a focus on intersectionality and social justice. Duties for a part-time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours. Additional duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, times, and modality, are determined by the Department Chair in consultation with faculty and under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers hold conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires are made from the applicant pool to fill instructional needs for coursework based on enrollment patterns, changes in tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors not covered by existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though occasional academic year appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on departmental needs, funding, and performance. Hires are often made shortly before the semester begins.
