The Department of Sociology at Sacramento State is seeking qualified candidates for its lecturer pool to teach lower- and upper-division courses. As one of the largest departments at the university, it has approximately 16 tenured and tenure-track faculty members and 15 lecturers serving over 500 undergraduate majors. Faculty expertise covers a wide range of sociological topics, with a focus on intersectionality and social justice. Duties for a part-time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours, with other duties assigned as needed. Course assignments are determined by the Department Chair in consultation with faculty and under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers hold conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget, with hires made from the applicant pool to fill instructional needs due to enrollment fluctuations, changes in tenure-track faculty assignments, or other factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though academic year appointments may occur. Renewals depend on departmental needs, funding, and performance. Appointments are often made shortly before the semester begins.
