SoC Physical Design Engineer

Nokia•San Jose, CA
•€34,491 - €64,055•Hybrid

About The Position

The SoC Physical Design Engineer will implement physical design for Optical Network ASICs, learn and work with latest technology nodes, develop implementation flows, and help deliver ASICs optimized for power, performance, and area (PPA). The role spans block-level and full-chip physical implementation, timing closure and sign-off, physical verification, and IR/EM analysis. It also involves collaboration with logic designers and hardware teams, technical evaluation of IP vendors and process nodes, and methodology and automation development across the flow from synthesis to GDSII.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience with ASIC physical design flows and methodologies in 3, 5, and 7 nm process nodes.
  • Solid knowledge of the full design cycle from RTL to GDSII and understanding of IC design concepts, implementation flows, and methodologies for deep-submicron design.
  • Experience with EDA place-and-route tools such as Fusion Compiler, Innovus, or similar; timing tools such as PrimeTime or similar; physical verification tools such as Calibre; and IR tools such as Redhawk.
  • Scripting experience in TCL, Python, or Perl.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical/Electronics, Communication, VLSI, or Microelectronics, with very good academics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical implementation, including floor planning, place and route, power and clock distribution, physical verification, and timing closure at block and full-chip levels.
  • Work with logic designers and the Hardware team on feasibility studies and design trade-offs for physical design closure.
  • Evaluate IP vendors and process nodes and provide recommendations.
  • Develop physical design methodologies and automation scripts for implementation steps from synthesis to GDSII.
  • Perform static timing analysis, create and validate timing constraints, analyze critical paths, and complete timing closure and sign-off.
  • Perform physical verification and IR/EM analysis on blocks and at the top level.

Benefits

  • Flexible and hybrid working schemes.
  • At least 90 days of maternity and paternity leave, with the option to return to work within a year following the birth or adoption of a child, subject to eligibility.
  • Life insurance for all employees.
  • Well-being programs supporting mental and physical health.
  • Opportunities to join and receive support from Nokia Employee Resource Groups (NERGs).
  • Employee Growth Solutions for personalized career and skills development.
  • Access to coaches and mentors.
  • A learning environment supporting personal growth and professional development.
