The Shift Leader is responsible for everything that happens during their shift, including staffing, paperwork, cost and inventory controls, cash control, food management, customer relations, store cleanliness, marketing, and profitability. The role requires setting a positive example, following all policies and procedures, and expecting the same from the crew. The Shift Leader must work to a schedule, maintain the store’s image and standards, provide great customer service, and demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality. Reliable transportation to and from work is required. General store duties include operating equipment; stocking ingredients from deliveries into storage, work areas, and the walk-in cooler; preparing products; receiving and processing telephone orders; taking inventory and completing related paperwork; and cleaning equipment and the facility approximately daily. The position involves exposure to varying and sometimes adverse weather during outdoor tasks, changing temperatures in the store and outdoors, food odors, cornmeal dust, cramped spaces such as the walk-in cooler, hot surfaces and tools, sharp edges, and moving mechanical parts. Work areas may range from 36 degrees in the cooler to 90 degrees or higher. The role also involves talking and listening on the telephone.
