About The Position

This contract Business Analyst supports an enterprise-wide consolidation of content into SharePoint Online at a global investment firm. Embedded with business units in a 20-person migration program, the analyst owns discovery, requirements gathering, and information architecture decisions from initial intake through business sign-off. Using a structured requirements workbook, the analyst documents where content is currently stored across Box, on-premises file shares, and legacy repositories, and defines how content should be structured, secured, and governed in SharePoint Online. Validated requirements become the build specification for the technical migration team. This is a business analysis role rather than an engineering role, requiring facilitation, structured thinking, and confident communication with stakeholders ranging from department heads to enterprise technology leads. The role is remote or hybrid, full-time at 40 hours per week, with an initial six-month contract term and potential extensions up to two years. The analyst partners with business units and enterprise technology leads to inventory content, facilitate requirements workshops, capture governance and compliance needs, analyze access models, guide site and information architecture decisions, and secure formal business sign-off. The analyst also serves as the primary liaison between business units and the technical migration team through cutover, coordinating schedules, user communications, post-migration validation, and issue resolution.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of business analysis experience, including at least one end-to-end SharePoint or Microsoft 365 content migration as an analyst, consultant, or migration team member.

  • Understanding of Microsoft 365 governance and compliance, including sensitivity labels, retention policies, and Microsoft Purview.
  • Ability to facilitate requirements workshops and translate business needs into clear, structured, testable requirements.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including confidence managing expectations and driving decisions with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; highly organized and able to support multiple business units concurrently against program deadlines.
  • Advanced Excel skills for content inventories, requirements tracking, and status reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with enterprise migration platforms such as DryvIQ or ShareGate, including interpreting pre-migration scans and permission reports.
  • Experience migrating content from Box or on-premises file shares, including identifying redundant, obsolete, and trivial (ROT) content.
  • Experience in financial services or another regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with Power Automate, Teams-connected sites, and SharePoint Advanced Management.
  • Relevant certification, such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert (MS-102) or its successor, Microsoft 365 and AI Services Administrator Associate (AB-650).

  • IIBA Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA) or Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP).

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business units and enterprise technology leads to inventory and validate top-level content sources, including their volume, ownership, activity, and business criticality.
  • Lead workbook-driven working sessions to document content types, columns and metadata, versioning needs, workflows and automation, and integrations to preserve or redesign.
  • Capture retention, sensitivity-labeling, and data-loss-prevention requirements aligned to Microsoft Purview, and flag regulated or confidential content for appropriate handling with compliance stakeholders.
  • Review existing folder structures and access models; identify top document contributors and cross-functional consumers; and translate legacy permissions into a least-privilege SharePoint Online model using Microsoft 365 and SharePoint groups.
  • Guide business units through standard site templates and recommend hub associations, site and library structures, navigation, and metadata-versus-folder strategies; confirm accountable site owners before go-live.
  • Produce clear current-state and future-state findings, reconcile gaps with the program team, and obtain formal business sign-off before migration.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between business units and the technical migration team through cutover, coordinating schedules, user communications, post-migration validation, and issue resolution.
