About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach MAT244H5F LEC101, Differential Equations I, at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) for the Fall 2026 term. The course covers ordinary differential equations, including existence and uniqueness, series solutions, linear systems, and applications. It also includes power series solutions, boundary value problems, Fourier series solutions, and numerical methods. The estimated course enrollment is 130 students, and there will be 45 hours of TA support per tutorial per semester. The appointment dates are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026. The class schedule is Tuesdays from 15:00 to 17:00 and Fridays from 11:00 to 12:00, in person.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related field, completed or nearly complete.
  • Advanced comprehension of the subject matter as evidenced by research activity and/or advanced teaching experience.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching preferred.
  • Demonstrable currency and mastery.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of delivering a university credit course including: planning the lectures, tutorials, assignments and tests and marking schemes
  • Providing appropriate contact time outside of class to students, through office hours, emails, etc.
  • Invigilating the final exam
  • Managing the grades and submitting the final course grades
  • Dealing with student petitions
  • Setting and grading a make-up exam if required
