About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer for the course MAT236H5S LEC101, Calculus of Several Variables II, at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). The course covers topics such as the implicit function theorem, vector fields, transformations, parametrized integrals, line, surface and volume integrals, and the theorems of Gauss and Stokes with applications. The estimated course enrollment is 110 students. The appointment is for the Winter 2027 session, from January 1, 2027, to April 30, 2027. The salary will be based on CUPE minimum salary rates for a full course (FCE), with specific rates provided for Sessional Lecturer I, I Long Term, II, II Long Term, III, and III Long Term. The class schedule is in-person, with lectures on Mondays from 15:00 to 16:00 and Thursdays from 11:00 to 13:00. TA support of 45 hours per tutorial per semester is provided.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related field, completed or nearly complete.
• Advanced comprehension of the subject matter as evidenced by research activity and/or advanced teaching experience.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all aspects of delivering a university credit course including: planning the lectures, tutorials, assignments and tests and marking schemes.
• Providing appropriate contact time outside of class to students, through office hours, emails, etc.
• Invigilating the final exam.
• Managing the grades and submitting the final course grades.
• Dealing with student petitions, setting and grading a make-up exam if required.
