About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach two sections (LEC102 & LEC113) of MAT135H5F, Differential Calculus, at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). The course covers functions, trigonometry, exponentials, logarithms, limits, continuity, derivatives, and applications of differentiation. The estimated course enrollment is 140 students per section, with 2 positions available. The appointment dates are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026. The salary will be based on CUPE minimum salary rates for a full course, with specific rates provided for Sessional Lecturer I, I Long Term, II, II Long Term, III, and III Long Term. The class schedule is in-person, with specific times for LEC102 and LEC113.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related field, completed or nearly complete.
  • Advanced comprehension of the subject matter as evidenced by research activity and/or advanced teaching experience.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching preferred.
  • Demonstrable currency and mastery.

Responsibilities

  • Planning the lectures, tutorials, assignments and tests and marking schemes
  • Providing appropriate contact time outside of class to students, through office hours, emails, etc.
  • Invigilating the final exam
  • Managing the grades and submitting the final course grades
  • Dealing with student petitions
  • Setting and grading a make-up exam if required
