About The Position

The Department of English at the University of Toronto Scarborough is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the Fall 2026 academic session for the course ENGC88H3 - Creative Writing: Creative Nonfiction II. This is an advanced study of the craft of creative non-fiction, exploring topics such as fact versus fiction, writing real people, the moral role of the author, the interview process, and how to get published. Students will produce, workshop, and rewrite an original piece of long-form creative non-fiction. The position involves all normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration, and marking of assignments, calculation and submission of grades, and holding regular office hours. All positions involve completion of any course grading not finished by December 31, 2026 for Fall courses.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in English, Creative Writing, or a related field, or equivalent teaching experience
  • A strong record of publishing nonfiction, including essays, memoirs, or book-length works
  • University-level teaching experience is an asset, particularly experience teaching creative nonfiction writing
  • Proposed course syllabus with the application
